Cognitive Scientist

Sonalysts, Inc. is seeking a cognitive scientist with critical thinking and effective communication skills to perform applied research and development for a range of defense and commercial projects.  The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the development of mission-critical, real-time software applications and/or interfaces across all phases of the system development lifecycle.


What you will be doing:

  • Reviewing and applying state-of-the-art science and technology to develop cutting edge systems in areas such as:

    • Training.

    • Performance Support.

    • Human-computer Interfaces.

    • Human-machine Teaming.

  • Designing investigations, collecting data, and documenting findings to establish the strengths and limitations of various innovations.

  • As you gain experience, you will earn the right to increase your responsibilities, including:

    • Managing New Projects

    • Leading Multidisciplinary Teams.

    • Developing New Customer Relationships.

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. citizen, eligible for a Department of Defense security clearance.

  • Master’s degree in Psychology or closely related discipline.


Preferred candidates will have one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related cognitive science discipline.

  • 0-4 years of recent cognitive science engineering experience.

  • Experience in quantitative methods and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, MATLAB, R).

  • Experience in qualitative methods (e.g., focus groups, interviews, observational research).

  • Experience with autonomous systems and human-machine teaming.

  • Experience with adaptive training technology.

  • Experience with simulation-based training.

  • Experience with virtual and augmented reality.
